Understanding Your Insurance

Yes, we Accept Insurance!

Call us for a complimentary review of your insurance coverage.

(Please note that while the information is obtained from your insurance company, we suggest that you still verify your coverage. This is not a guarantee of benefits and any information obtained is to the best of our knowledge. This is a complimentary service we provide to help you best understand your insurance and receive care, but we do not take responsibility for changes in policy.)

Other payment Options

Did you know that your Health Savings Account (HSA) can be used to pay for your acupuncture visits? This works if acupuncture is not a covered service through your insurance, or you need additional care that goes beyond your acupuncture benefits.

Additionally, we will continue to offer sliding-scale for patients that need it. We are committed to your health and keeping acupuncture an accessible form of health care for your entire family.

Insurance Verbiage: Helping You Talk The Talk

  • Billed Amount Vs. Allowables: We bill a certain amount to your insurance company. They in turn let us know what the allowed amount is, then we write off the difference. It is not passed on to the client.

  • EOB: Explanation of Benefits, this comes from your insurance company and breaks down how they processed the claim.

  • Deductible: The amount of money you must pay out of pocket before your insurance starts to cover benefits. This is commonly done in amounts of $500, $1000, $1500, $2000, or $5,000. Highly variable depending on your insurance plan.

  • Coinsurance: The percentage of costs of a covered health care service you pay (20%, for example) after you've paid your deductible.

  • Copayment: A flat rate from your insurance company that is your responsibility for services that you pay at each visit.

  • Out of Pocket: What you pay until your insurance covers 100% of the charges.

  • Pre-Authorization: This means that your insurance requires you to be referred to acupuncture AND to have the insurance approve that request either after the initial evaluation or prior to coming in for your first visit depending on your insurance coverage. We will obtain the authorization for you but it will be your responsibility to get a referral from your MD should one be required.

  • CPT: Billing codes we use for medical procedures ( such as needle insertions, cupping and tui na, etc.) Please note that the CPT codes of insurance clients vs Cash Pay clients will differ. This is just an unfortunate side effect of how the systems operate.

  • ICD: These are the diagnostic codes (aka: why you came in). In general, insurance will only reimburse pain codes for acupuncture, but we may choose to additionally list other ICD codes your PCP and other providers have already billed under. Please note that some insurance will only reimburse certain codes.

  • SuperBill: These are itemized receipts for care provided. They are used when patients pay cash for appointments and either want to send it to their insurance for reimbursement or to count towards their deductible, and/or be reimbursed from HSA (health savings account).

  • Health Savings Account (HSA): This is a pre-tax account that you can put money into to pay for services not commonly covered by your insurance , or to be used while you are reaching your deductible (before your insurance, or to be sued while you are reaching your deductible. If your insurance does not cover acupuncture or you have a high deductible to hit before your benefits start, we highly recommend that you establish a HSA (if possible) and submit  your superbills to your HSA for reimbursement.
