Modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient system that has its own interpretations of health and vitality, offering solutions to an array of health concerns at every stage of life. At Aqua Terra Health we believe in prevention when possible and treatment as needed. Through many modalities we are able to address, correct, and support you along your journey.
Modalities
Acupuncture
The insertion of hair-thin, sterile, single-use needles into the body stimulates the body’s natural healing response through various physiological systems. The process is often painless, or nearly so, and generally very relaxing. Usually the needles are retained for 15 to 45 minutes. Your treatments may include points on your hands, arms, legs and feet, and/or head and neck.
Herbal Medicine
Drawing from compounds naturally occurring in nature, herbal medicine is custom blended to treat your ailment and underlying conditions. It can be formulated as teas, granules, pills, or tinctures depending on your preference.
Cupping
Involves using glass or plastic suction-cups to create a painless vacuum effect that draws the skin up. The result is a movement of blood to the area, the release of toxins, acupuncture point stimulation, increased circulation of blood and lymph, and relaxation of tight muscles. The cups may be left in one spot, or when used with massage oil, slid along the skin as a type of massage.
Gua Sha
The technique of using a tool to rub or ‘press-stroke’ the skin with even, repeated strokes over congested areas, allowing for small red dots or petechiae to appear. This treatment greatly increases circulation in the muscles, softens the connective tissue, breaks up scar tissue, removes spasms and pain, increases microcirculation, and reduces inflammation. It even up-regulates the immune system.
Tui Na
Translated from Chinese, this treatment modality means “pinch and pull.” It is a blend of massage, stretching, and other therapeutic techniques commonly used to release strains, tightness, and a variety of musculoskeletal problems.
Pediatric SHONISHIN
Translated from Japanese, this treatment modality means “beginners mind.” Activating the meridians and acupressure points via the use of gentle tools and acupressure to heal: digestive, skin, sleep, and behavior disorders, and most common childhood ailments. Needle free, this modality is perfect for youngsters and accompanied with plenty of giggles and cuddles!
